Re: Doouble Fine's new adventure
But most developers do have industry experience - indies with a successfully released game on their name can use it to get funding. True, and this type of funding isn't unheard of - but it is still a very unstable way to secure funding for a project. Tim Schafer is doing it with grand scale - but h...

Re: Doouble Fine's new adventure
Business sense tells me that unless other well known game designers take this on this will be a one up. I'm not sure most big name companies would be willing to sacrifice secure funding for maybe donations. As for indie developers - well I'm not sure anybody would donate money to fund an idea for a ...

Re: Doouble Fines new adventure
Well, it also looked like funding the project gave you a copy of the game. If this actually works, and more companies follow suit this could actually be the most incline the games industry has seen in a long time. Unlikely, but a man can hope. I dunno. I think all this proves is that it's worthwhil...

Re: Story in games
I think the evolution of the narrative in video games has been doing fine. The evolution of gameplay has helped define the narrative without it being so abstract. For me when games like Deus Ex, NOLF, SS2 and Half-Life came out it was a defining moment that showed games outside of the adventure genr...

Re: The Elder Scrolls - Skyrim
I'm on Xbox so no mods for me this time round - but I am holding out hope, Todd Howard said he would like to get community mods delivered to the console versions if Microsoft/Sony would open up to the idea.

Re: BioShock Infinite's 1999 Mode
never got far in STALKER - was enjoying it, but my PC is dated and while my Mac is capable enough it has a pretty weak graphics card (actually a very weak graphics card)
I liked weapon damage in System Shock 2 - repair was a necessary skill to invest in if you wanted to use firearms.

Re: The Elder Scrolls - Skyrim
yeah I thought karma system because I've been playing Fallout 3 GOTY over the weekend and couldn't think of a way to write what I wanted out of it. But you hit the nail on the head - guild level requirements and restrictions, and for a consequence based choice system. I have nothing against karma sy...

Re: BioShock Infinite's 1999 Mode
Hopefully they put back weapon degradation, limited ammo, and none of that instant-respawn bullshit from the first Bioshock. Instant respawn is in, but it costs money, similar to how it worked in SS2. Or at least that is what I've gathered from interviews. Weapon degradation is probably not in, and...

The Elder Scrolls - Skyrim
Anybody played this yet? I have put about 100 hours in - it is easily the best ES game since Morrowind. However I still find there are some things missing: - Steatlh while decent is lacking huge. It needs knockouts and a better body hiding system. I want to be able to make it through the game withou...

shitty - I am not a huge chocolate fan and only eat it if it has been in the freezer. But still - shitty.
Like Jonas though - I'll be content as long as Coffee remains affordable and in supply.

Re: BioShock Infinite's 1999 Mode
*Didn't read through this entire thread - but did read the article* Hopefully they put back weapon degradation, limited ammo, and none of that instant-respawn bullshit from the first Bioshock. I loved Bioshock - but it felt too casual in comparison to System Shock 2. Hopefully this mode gives me wha...

Re: Would you have bought DX:HR if it wasn't Deus Ex?
I'm about two thirds of the way through Human Revolution - I definitely feel the Invisible War influence heavy in this title, but it has been a far better attempt at a DX followup. I still prefer the original DX - maybe due to nostalgia, maybe due to it being a better game - I can't say for sure. Wo...

Re: Great Steam Sales
I definitely don't support the looting and rioting - but I am still not sure I'd trust they had a good reason for shooting someone dead. As for the riots - these aren't the first (or even second) in the last few decades over there, and the lower class are understandably angry at the rights and progr...
