Re: What are you playing?
It's in C# (so .NET), using WPF for the UI framework. It's a clone of Candyland, which is pretty much the absolute most simplistic boardgame on the planet (it's designed so that kids who can't even read yet can play- you move by drawing cards from a deck, and then moving your piece down the board to...

Re: What are you playing?
http://i.imgur.com/2QiK3.png This might not look like much, but it's taken me DOZENS of hours of research to get to this point. Especially that white circle with the 1 in it. I want the circle to have a black border, but that'll have to wait until tomorrow. At least, however, I've finally got to th...

Re: Doouble Fine's new adventure
I'd imagine that when Double Fine says $300k (Note that their entire goal value was not entirely for the game, it's 3/4 game, 1/4 Player Two documentary on the development), and October of this year, they've already got the preproduction finished, eating the cost themselves. This isn't an indie dev ...

Re: What are you playing?
Let me ask you guys something. It's hypothetical, but it's not... entirely hypothetical, if you get my drift. What would you think about a system where any equipment you loot is essentially given a score which is added to your "Equipment" score when you acquire it. Say that you have a party of 6 ad...

Re: What are you playing?
SA used to have a l4d group (goon4dead) and that was great, but last year it basically dissolved. The steam group still exists, but the core group that hung out in the group chat and organized games is long gone.

Re: What are you playing?
Kingdoms of Amalur. The game is very uneven. Some things are really nice, but some things are awful and some are just painfully mediocre. L4d2. Versus is awesome fun. BLAAAAAAAAARGH. HYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I really miss l4d2 versus, but the FUCKING PLAYER BASE is just so fucking awful that i...

Re: What are you playing?
Programming a boardgame's taking up my normal gaming time, while mobile time is currently spent on playing the Sega Genesis version of Shadowrun (AGAIN. I've replayed this game so many times...)

Re: "Warren Spector getting Lifetime Achievement award at GD
Right; but even supposing they did an exact copy of mario 64's camera, and more open environments, don't you reckon it would still be a major issue? No. The first and foremost problem with Epic Mickey's camera is that the level design gives it absolutely no consideration. More open environments wou...

Re: "Warren Spector getting Lifetime Achievement award at GD
The problem with Epic Mickey's camera isn't that it's player controlled. It has some auto-balancing to it. The problem is that it works basically like Mario 64's camera controls on the dpad, and an auto-go behind button, except the camera refuses to clip through walls, and the levels are frequently ...

Re: "Warren Spector getting Lifetime Achievement award at GD
Even the best artists can produce some pretty awful stuff, although I'm not suggesting that _any_ of his games can be described as awful. I would describe Epic Mickey as awful. It brings back platformer camera issues that the industry solved over a decade ago, and that's completely inexcusable. The...

Re: "Warren Spector getting Lifetime Achievement award at GD
Polyneux is at least still making good games, even if they're not incredible. I dunno, I'm not saying Spector doesn't deserve it, just that it feels weird, given how disappointing his output's been since Thief: Deadly Shadows (and really, since Deus Ex. I went back to play DS a couple weeks ago and ...

Re: "Warren Spector getting Lifetime Achievement award at GD
God, I wish the man would put out another game. For a platform I actually own, this time. You weren't missing anything with Epic Mickey. In fact, I'm actually a bit uncomfortable with the idea of Spector getting an award when he hasn't done anything noteworthy in over eight years, nothing truly gro...

Re: Sexism in games (Kingdoms of Amalur case study)
I find it really weird that you find being judged for your actions is the same as an unknown individual being judged based on prejudices about a group they're a member of. I'm not prejudiced against you, I'm judging you, not pre, but post, based on what you've already posted in this thread. Are you...

Re: Sexism in games (Kingdoms of Amalur case study)
Well fuck you too =P For a person arguing against discrimination based on prejudice, you don't seem to be taking that stance to heart. I find it really weird that you find being judged for your actions is the same as an unknown individual being judged based on prejudices about a group they're a mem...

Re: Sexism in games (Kingdoms of Amalur case study)
When I said I didn't want to talk about this topic there was a good goddamn reason for it. DDL, you can be wrong while still stating true things. When I say "Transwomen are real women" and you reply with "Some people are misdiagnosed or don't have severe GID", You're saying something true to try and...
