Re: Idea
Yeah, everything is rather scattered... But I counted 3 because I made a distinction between releasing small sets of unfinished material (inactively being... well you know) and releasing it all at once (again inactively... blah blah blah). The former was suggested so that it might be easier to manag...

Re: Idea
You may not have believed there was an equivalence, and I can see evidence you can use to support the idea that you did not, but you certainly did set one up. It was that that I was responding to, not your previous posts. For some reason I took both your statements to mean my use of the word open s...

Re: Idea
You're conflating two very different things. It is not the same as the commonly accepted definition of open source and thus things said about it cannot be applied to open source projects in general because, among other things, a project doesn't need to do that to be open source. Say a project ended...

Re: Idea
For the purposes of our discussion it is important to note that what you are talking about is not the same as the commonly accepted meaning of open source and thus what I am saying in response cannot be applied to open source projects in general. How is it not? People releasing code that includes p...

Re: Idea
Unless I missed something open source doesn't mean, "Open to the public before it is complete," which is what you're talking about. That makes a big damn difference. It is one thing to let people rework what you did after you've done it. It is another to let them rework what you're working on while...

Re: Idea
By collaborative I meant beyond a hand-picked team. I was thinking of some kind of repository where all the most recent files would be stored along with a txt explaining who the previous authors were+contact details, whether they're active and what work remained. I imagine an author is added only if...

Re: Idea
The team really shouldn't feel insulted by that! Like I said, I usually and sometimes irrationally prefer low-def stuff. Geez, I'm sorry.

Re: Idea
I don't even know if I'll use the mod in my subsequent playthroughs. I'm content with the original models (I actually think they look nice in that unreal/quake 2 engine way), but certainly I'll try it out. #-o Wait what? Sorry, I didn't really explain that all too well, mostly because it's ...

Fleshing out the maps
Were there ever plans to try to expand on some of the levels in Deus Ex? I mean in a way that keeps the original design intact (so nothing like the revision mod). For example, allowing one to enter some of the various doors barred off in New York, Hong Kong and Paris? Or adding more secret areas int...

Re: Idea
It could still apply, but I don't know enough about the specifics of what DDL has to do to know for certain. I imagine he has to compile all the material at once, which would require outside contributors to actually have all the material. That would make it harder to just release onto the internet. ...

Re: Idea
Quality of Work perhaps? And if only one person knows how to do it then imagine how long it would take to learn. This still hasn't been justified has it? If someone of less experience was to do the final pieces then those said final pieces would be of lower quality compaired to the rest of the pack...

Re: Idea
I have to say, I'm having a hard time buying that. Can you point to specifics? Why is no one but this one individual capable of finishing the remaining work? If someone with skills in that area needs to learn some things then they can. I think if you released the unfinished material online and publi...

Re: Idea
Yeah ....all that hard work we'll throw away like paper money into the air for its dispersal round the internet. There are only now 9 weapons left to rig/deploy back into Deux Ex and walah! The End. Sorry, but in what sense are you throwing your hard work away? Given that this is a purely aesthetic...
