Re: Need ALL of clyzms weapons
Wasn't he the guy who ripped a bunch of Counter-Strike weapons and then tried to pawn it off to the community as his own work? Fuck it's been a long time. Not sure if he passed them off as his own, but yes, his mod consisted of many weapon models taken from Counter Strike. I'm assuming Kelkos wants...

Re: TNM and UnrealEd > Current Year
I can't even make it through the intro on account of the shitty writing :P Would you care to elaborate on this? I thought the writing was fine, although most of the jokes didn't really work for me. @ZeroPresence: My biggest problem with the Llama temple was that the temple part of it was too short,...

Re: Is marketing truly everything?
Jackpot indie dev: Minecraft, NMS etc. Minecraft is an example of a major success that didn't have much marketing, ironically. Your list of games doesn't actually refute anything, since most of those are unreleased games or in Early Access, and in any case neither of them have promised procedurally...

Re: Is marketing truly everything?
Sorry, but it is, by a huge margin. If that were true, Duke Nukem Forever would not have failed to meet sales expectations, nor would Daikatana be heavily vilified by most players today. Both had very effective marketing and got many people to talk, yet in the end it didn't make them successful. Ma...

Re: Is marketing truly everything?
As for the topic at hand, I agree with MCP: marketing is incredibly important. You can get lucky and find financial success through word of mouth (or: viral, as it's also called), but that's a crapshoot. If you want to sell, you need to make sure the people who might want to buy it know that it exi...

Re: Is marketing truly everything?
Marketing budgets do not accurately represent the effectiveness of the marketing, similar to how you can have a big budget AAA that's a load of trite. And what does, then? How many people talked about it, or how well it sold? If it's the former, there are examples of products with the former effect...

Re: Is marketing truly everything?
Marketing/advertising is literally everything between financial success and failure, few exceptions apply. It's the bridge between the product and the consumer. If the consumer is unaware of your product, then you didn't advertise, or didn't advertise well enough. While true, this only talks about ...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced
Does that mean that I can't bring up disagreements with you, just because I debate stuff with you on other forums? Also I made a new thread to discuss the topic. It's in the Off Topic forum. You're a borderline stalker. Passive aggressive, nonsensical, and apparently have the moral standing to act a...

Is marketing truly everything?
Made in relation to a discussion on the GMDX thread about marketing. Cybernetic pig claimed that Deus Ex had shit marketing but was still remembered for its quality. I disputed this, saying that before release it had gathered decent hype and was featured on several gaming magazines. Then he responde...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced
Don't act innocent. You've been a thorn in my side for some time now and you know it. Only because I disagree on some vital points, like universal ammo, save points and such. This argument on the importance of marketing is just one of these deep seated disagreements, which I first brought up throug...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced
Promises, as in how the game was presented, as in marketing . False advertising at that. You are aware much of what was promised was not delivered on, right? Yes I am. However, this challenges your claim that marketing alone can make people buy something. Consider the issue of No Man's Sky's develo...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced
Uh huh. People will buy literal dogshit as ornaments if presented effectively enough. How is this still not concrete knowledge in people's minds? No Mans Sky was a mainstream success solely because of its marketing, for example. It was a success before ever being put on the market. whether or not i...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced
it didn't really meet the mainstream nor the core PC gaming audience in the same way Doom or Half-Life did. A lot of this is down to marketing or the lack thereof. I would argue that it wasn't really aiming for the audience of those two games. Those are basically straight up shooters, and so inhere...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced
Deus Ex itself had shit marketing too, but it lives on today because of its quality. I don't quite agree. I remember it was featured in several gaming magazines of the time and there was a decent amount of hype around it thanks to Warren Spector and Harvey Smith's involvement. Deus Ex also did comm...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced
This gave me a chuckle: I've finished the game with GMDX 8.0, and from the planned changes for 9.0 that I've read from the site, I can say it's just gonna become another revision mod. Planned changes for 9.0 are nothing but texture and graphical design changes that takes too many liberties. I would ...
