Renderer Problem or...?

Post by CrowbarN7 »

Firstly, NV is absolutely brilliant, I'm loving my playthrough seeing textures that make the game look newer environmentally, but I do have one question. In darkness, the textures seem to get a real saturated look to them, the darker it is the more pronounced it is, is that normal or is Kenties DX10 renderer doing something it shouldn't?

'Saturated'? Do you mean the gradient between light/shadow looks crap?

That's a general problem with the resolution/bit-depth of the lightmaps Deus Ex generates. Unfortunately there's no way to improve it, as far as I'm aware - Kentie looked into it at some point and came to the same conclusion.

Thats the one, it just doesn't fade properly/looks all funky, cheers Dave, guess it's an old engine so can't expect it to be perfect!

The unreal engine(s) have always been very hard to improve when they get a bit old.

I seem to be having a weird issue with the DX10 renderer as well, sometimes random textures won't respond to any light including my flashlight, so they're just pure black.

Usually it's only single textures but at times it's bigger areas, and I'm not really sure if it's a problem on my end or not but it makes seeing certain things really hard if not impossible.

Here are some examples of what I mean:

I've noticed these occurrences all over the game and they won't respond to lighting no matter what angle I try or how close I get to them.

Anyone know how to fix it or have any idea why it's happening?

I haven't got that exactly, but I noticed if I am using the DX10 render and I minimize Deus Ex and go back onto full screen, everything turns black and I have to save if I am on a play though (It won't affect your save game in any way), exit and restart to play it.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but the other day I was playing TNM with the new DX10 renderer, and I had a lot of textures showing up black, and the flashlight did not light up a lot of textures in dark places like vents.

The following seems to have fixed the problem (for the most part):
Open the console, and enter the "preferences" command (without quotes)
In the Advanced Options window that opens, under Rendering, Direct3D 10 Support,
Set Anisotropy to 0
Set SimulateMultiPassTexturing to False
Set VolumetricLighting to False

Now all textures show up and all textures respond to flashlight directly. I still have a problem with shining a flashlight through textures, like grates and bars, but seems to work through glass.

You could try Kenties DX11 render and see if it is an improvement over DX10, if it works on your Deus Ex (Not sure if it works with a graphics that don't support DX11) you can find it here: http://www.offtopicproductions.com/foru ... =6&t=11874

It's a common problem with the render. If some textures show up black just press ESC and go back to game. Solves it. ;)
