Adding TNM to Steam as a third party shortcut

Post by Jetsetlemming »

Could I get a brief rundown on how to do this? When I try to add a Steam shortcut then paste in the settings from the desktop shortcut created by the installer, I get this error when I try to run it:

And I can't get the icon to use the TNM icon, since the select icon setup in Steam stupidly only lets you point to .exes for some reason. :(

I haven't had any luck doing this either. I'm not sure what steams issue is but I think it doesn't like the command line parameters

Had similar problem with WINE one time. You might also try putting quotes around the application call. Thusly:

"C:\DeusEx2\system\TNM.exe"

Hope it works for ya.

Yes, terthos is right. I've been playing TNM via steam since I installed it. My first thought was just to copy the shortcut command, but that didn't work like Jetsetlemming observed.

TNM showed up in my "add non-steam game" list, but if it doesn't then you'll have to add it manually.
I then put quotes around the executable path/name ONLY, thus:

"D:\DeusEx\System\TNM.exe" -hax0r INI="D:\DeusEx\TNM\System\TNM.ini" USERINI="D:\DeusEx\TNM\System\TNMUser.ini" log=TNM.log

and leaving location alone.

Obviously replace with the string from the propertie of your own TNM shortcut as my paths are non-standard. Steam currently doesn't have the ability to add a pre-existing shortcut as a 3rd party game or this wouldn't be necessary.

Adding in extra quotes on the .exe location part works, though for some reason TNM seems to run much worse through Steam than normal. Feels like a small but incredibly annoying input lag.

I gotta say it was a pleasant surprise when the message "Patrick is now playing The Nameless Mod" popped up on Steam last night. Put a right tingle down my spine, it did.

lemming, I've not noticed any input lag but using the steam overlay is very laggy when web browsing, definitely NOT for deus ex cheats, hur hur.

It's pretty tingly to be playing a game knowing that I could talk to the lead developer at the touch of a button!
