 Conversation text too big.
Hello. This is my first time playing TNM, and I have already encountered a problem. When I initiate a conversation with an NPC, the text is way too big. This sometimes cuts off some of the text and even creates a situation where I cannot select a conversation option. Now, being the good person I am, I used the search function on this forum to try and find a solution (as I am sure I am not the only one who has had this problem before), and I even tried Google to find a solution, but to no avail.
If it helps I am running Deus Ex:
- in Direct3D mode (I have DirectX9, Windows XP ftw) - I am running at 640x480 resolution (my computer kind of sucks)
Increasing the resolution did not help, and switching to a different video mode did not help.
That's all I can really tell you guys and/or gals. Any help would be appreciated. I would hate my journey in this mod to be hampered by really big text. Thank you.
EDIT: I didn't try 1024x768 resolution before, and now the text is perfectly fine. I get a little slow down on my crap computer, but it is well worth the gain of actually being able to select the conversation option I want instead of clicking on something, wondering what I could have been clicking on instead. Which begs the question: was this mod not designed for low resolutions?

 Re: Conversation text too big.
Heya Toad. Glad you got it fixed. TNM seems to be designed for more modern computers than what Deus Ex was designed for. The march of progress, and all that, sorry. The Deus Ex engine is very limited with what it can do efficiently, and TNM takes some liberties with impressive results. If budget is a concern, integrated video from the last several years should be more than enough, GMA900 and such.
I really like the Chaos tracks from Blind Guardian, the Dream Sequencer music. I don't like Power Ballads generally, but they capture a 1980's electric guitar spirit with some 1990's electronica motifs. There were some pseudo-medieval songs of interest, but I mostly liked the dream sequencer. "Nobody has gone back this far before! Are you sure you want to continue?"

 Re: Conversation text too big.
Try the solution at the end of the thread to reduce the font size with a console command: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1696I also added the information to the wiki: http://thenamelessmod.com/wiki/TNM_HD when that problem comes up in a different context. However, it is hard to imagine that you can't run the game at 1024x768, even if your machine is very slow. Try a DX9 or DX8 renderer that you can find on the internet, or one of the updated OpenGL ones. This is the right site: http://www.cwdohnal.com/utglr/ but it appears to be down now.

 Re: Conversation text too big.
Hmm... I tried both console commands, but it just says it's an unrecognized command (and I did delete "Say" before I typed them in). *shrug*
Well, I'm going to try some different video modes, just to see if any of them run faster in 1024x768 mode.
Edit: My computer hates OpenGL, Software mode is too slow, so I'll stick with Direct3D. It's only the outside areas that lag a bit though, otherwise it's perfectly fine.

 Re: Conversation text too big.
Sorry for the double post, but I have run across another problem. In the one secondary quest where you attempt to locate the thug's stash at the beggining of the game, every time I approach the area the stash is located (or I presume it is located), TNM exits and gives me this error: Does anyone know what this is about, and has anyone else experienced this problem before? And if so, is there a solution? Thanks in advance. Also, sorry if anything I said was a spoiler.

I don't think we ever found a solution for this. You can try searching this forum for "galaxy" or "sound crash" or similar, here's a couple of (unresolved, I'm afraid) topics that came up when I did that: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=3130&hilit=galaxyviewtopic.php?f=32&t=2550&p=48637&hilit=galaxy

 Re: Conversation text too big.
Alright, thanks for the help. I'll see what I can do about it.
Edit: HAH! Turning down the sound quality fixed the problem. However, whenever I was near that spot, I heard a strange grinding noise that I didn't hear when I had the sound quality set to the highest. Maybe this might be the cause of the problem?

 Re: Conversation text too big.
Could be. What's your sound card? One of Jonas' links brings up an error I had too, and my sound card is weird. I have to open dxdiag and turn down the sound acceleration one notch. I'll get a new Asus soundcard as soon as I have a use for one
