TNM doesn't even start, here is a log file if that's helpful
Hey, little late to the party I know, but I am trying to get The Nameless Mod to work and it is refusing to. I am on a 64 bit Windows 7 with an ATI HD 4650 and decent enough specs to run DX. In fact, I believe I have actually had TNM installed and running on this computer a few years ago, but I didn't get very far. So I am very confused as to why it isn't even starting this time. I followed the steps like you were supposed to:
-I made a clean install of Deus Ex (GOTY edition so its up to date) into D:\DeusEx. I had an old copy of DX on my harddrive but I uninstalled it + all the mods I was using (shifter and the texture packs), so I could get a clean install for TNM. -Then I ran it once (it didn't start, so I got kentie's replacement exe and dx9/dx10 renderers), changed some gfx settings, opened the tutorial. DX itself works just fine. -Then I installed The Nameless Mod (latest exe 1.04) - it gave me a message about making sure I've run Deus Ex once, even though I'd already ran it -When it finished installing I tried to run it - it went black for a second then gave me the standard Windows error "TNM.exe has stopped working...", I let Windows try to search for a solution but it gave me no useful error message. -Tried changing renderers, none of them work, not even software. Tried running in Deus Ex safe mode, it just starts up Deus Ex instead of TNM -Tried replacing the TNM.ini in my documents folder with the one in my TNM system folder, didn't work
I know that this is not much to go on but if anyone has any ideas I would be super grateful. I couldn't find anything on google about the game just instantly crashing. I did notice that the TNM shortcut creates a log file, so here is TNM.log that I found in my Documents folder, perhaps it will be of use (sorry for the wall of text):

Damn that's weird. Usually when things go wrong, you'll be looking for lines in the log starting with "Warning" or "Critical" but your log looks like you just opened and closed the game without incident. It's difficult when Windows just throws a generic error at you, could be anything. I see you've tried to run DX in safe mode, but have you tried launching TNM in Windows XP compatibility mode? That's all I've got, sorry :S

If you're using Kentie's exe then it shouldn't be a speedstepping issue. It doesn't look like a render issue either. You have your drivers up to date? The only thing I can think of that might help is reinstalling the Microsoft Redistributable: http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=5582There's usually a specific error message if it's the cause though.

Jonas: Well the shortcut is already configured to use XP SP3 compatibility mode but I went and changed tnm.exe to run in that compatibility and the same thing happened :\
bobby 55: Just tried reinstalling the c++ redist and still no change with TNM. My drivers are nearly up to date and definitely newer than TNM, I think I have catalyst 12.3 and the latest is 12.4

Erk, okay this is a little left field-ish, maybe try setting UsesDirectSound=False in the ini. There have been a few sound related problems with DX, and subsequently TNM, over the course of time.

Ah crap, are you running it in DX9 or DX10? If you're running it in DX10 maybe switch to 9. I'm really grasping at straws here. Um, did you change both TNM's and DX's exes with the Kenties exe?

Re: TNM doesn't even start, here is a log file if that's hel
Well believe it or not I randomly figured it out on my own while following a crazy hunch. The sudden crash with no error message reminded me of a similar crash with another program. What I had to do was go into my advanced system settings and make a DEP exception for TNM.exe. In case any one else has this problem in the future, here are the steps to doing this: 1. Open control panel 2. Click "System" 3. Click "Advanced System Settings" on the left 4. Go to the Advanced tab 5. Click "Settings" under the Performance box 6. Go to the Data Execution Prevention tab 7. Click the "Add" button ("Turn on DEP for everything except those I select:" should be highlighted) 8. Navigate to TNM.exe in the DeusEx/System directory and press enter, TNM should appear in the list 9. Apply and OK I have no idea why TNM was being restricted by DEP, that sometimes happens with older games but never heard of it with Deus Ex.. and any future googlers should be warned that disabling it for any reason may not be safe! But I don't think anything too bad is going to happen, and at least I can play the game now Thanks for your guys help anyway I appreciate the effort and dedication to the game.

Aha, it's good to see you got it working. Thanks for posting your solution as well, it might help some other person sometime.

Re: TNM doesn't even start, here is a log file if that's hel
I thought Microsoft fixed the buggy DEP with Windows 7 - I remember it causing me problems on Vista because it would force applications to shut down at random, and the programs themselves wouldn't know what the hell had happened.
