Alright, scratch that last post. I went up to Panera and got on d2d.com. I'll keep you posted.

OK. This is the final response I got from D2D.com. I've also contacted Eidos Interactive and am waiting a reply. Sorry if I'm spamming, just trying to provide help.

Hmm interesting.

If we knew exactly what they'd changed, we might be able to work around it like we did with Steam. How are you trying to launch the game, with the shortcut on your desktop?

Perhaps the data packages are arranged differently in the D2D version. Hrm.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to look into this for all the D2D-Deus Ex players :)

Anytime. I'm running on Vista and TNM didn't put a shortcut on my desktop. I run it from the Eidos Interactive\Deus Ex\TNM directory.

IDK if this would help, but I have two user's on this computer....although I've tried it on both and I get the same either way.

By the way. This is my Error message. idk if Citizen just mis-typed or they are different.

IDK if this matters...

Getting the same stupid error message, and I'm running a D2D version, on Windows XP. D2D says they didn't change anything, but they obviously did. The game was put up there several years ago, though, so we'd have no way of knowing.

Anyone found a solution yet?

Well it's probably that D2D didn't change it, but that Eidos did.

I'm sorry but I don't know what's up with those error message. Maybe somebody else will have a clue.

I sort of doubt we'll get a fix for this. I'm going to have to find a retail version of the game somewhere. Bleh

I hate to say this, but if you actually own Deus Ex already, certainly a case can be made for morally being allowed to acquire a retail-version of Deus Ex through alternate sources.

If you already own Deus Ex.

Well yes, I have the version from Direct 2 Drive....

But it doesn't matter. I legally downloaded a retail copy (version 1). Tried to install Nameless Mod, but got the error that the game needed to be patched.

Downloaded Patch

Applied Patch (note that it didn't ask about over writing files). After I applied Patch, I installed Nameless, and the HD pack. Tried to run it, and guess what? Same error! So something is really up. Perhaps the Torrent I found was also a Direct 2 Drive, but the file I got from the torrent was actually an iso (and the Direct 2 Drive is an exe file).

I'm losing patience :( I really want to play this game, however! :/

I actually downloaded a torrent of this, and still got the same error. I'm not really sure what to do now at this point. If someone finds a working torrent of an original version of Deus Ex, I guess let me know. Please note that I own Deus Ex twice, actually. Once on the PS2, and once on the PC. >_<

IDK how this would change things, but has anybody gotten this message with the .iso download?

Why did you download the patch? Didn't the installer offer to install it for you?
