Deus Ex (1)
In my opinion, Deus Ex 1 is the best FPS action-adventure ever made.
Ion Storm did an amazing job.
Unfortunately, DX2 was a bad move.
Now i'm waiting for DX3 ...

I doubt you'll find much opposition to any of that here.

I'm of the opinion that if only Ion Storm had survived for a little while longer, they could've patched IW with some of the fixes from DS, which would've made it 10x better, or at least more playable.
I'm amazed that, over the years, nobody's come up with a fan patch/mod for IW that does things like remove universal ammo and replace the IW renderer with the better one from DS...

Clearly you didn't buy the game before the first few patches came out. That game had some horrible coding. I rank it in my "good games" list which is pretty high praise coming from me. With the patches and the high def textures the game is SO much better. I still like DX1 better though.DaveW wrote:DX2 had a bad engine? A large list of bugs? It was a bad move because it had no story.
I must've picked up the wrong game at the shop.
I'll repeat: you can SHOOT TRACER TONG IN THE FACE.
I know you could technically do that in DX1, but it didn't achieve anything. In DX2 you can both kill him, and exploit the ragdoll system to hilariously vandalise his corpse. How can you not love this?
My only real complaints with DX2 are the universal ammo, the fact that the default pistol is basically good enough for everything in the game except commandos, and the just plain lack of enemies. I really wanted a 'ton-hotel style shootout or two, but it's a max of five or six badguys per map, pretty much.

Having dealt extensively with the DX code I can safely say that it is awful. In fairness this can be said about most games due to time pressures however I dont think its really a fair complaint about DX2.
DX2 was a good game in its own right. Its no DX but sequels are often not as good as their predecessors. That doesn't make it a bad move to make a less successful sequel.
DDL: You can shoot tracer tong as much as you like in dx until you run out of ammo. Surely thats more fun than shooting a corpse
