Two Installs of Deus Ex

Post by ZeroPresence »

Howdy, is it possible to install two different folders of Deus Ex that both function properly? AKA: one directory for TNM (and its modified ConSys, which screws up a lot of vanilla DX stuff), and another for running normal Deus Ex. I also plan on installing the editors in each of these directories as well.

On another note I wonder if TNM is the reason for DXMP losing half of its on average 20 people that play it still. :P

No it is not possible to install (Via the disk) it twice as far as I know, but you can copy the DeusEx folder and then Paste it somewhere else. Viola you now have two copies of Deus Ex installed.

Steam Version and Disk version.
Paul, I know you said no phone messages, but South Street's going up in smoke. We'll have to meet at the subway station.

Steam games work differently, you need everything in the right place or it does not work. or at least every Steam game I have played works that way. Having two Steam Deus Ex installations requires you to copy the Steam folder.

I think it's possible to have two installs by just copying the vanilla DX folder.

The only registry entries I could find were for shortcuts and start menu, the Deus Ex networking url and ARP cache, and info for uninstallation. I think Deus Ex settings are fairly encapsulated in the ini files. I don't see any reason why just duplicating the directory wouldn't work.

Would changing the the title of the first Deus Ex install to say My Deus Ex , then do another install work?

Not if the game had registry entries that were necessary for game start. Deus Ex, however, does not as I have had multiple "installations" running on my system before.

Two copies of the game is all you need, then using this guide (if necessary) to play the game without the CD (again, if necessary) should work.

yeah, all I had to do was copy directories. I made little tests maps in each Maps folder to try it out and both run properly, and both even use their own independent Unreal Eds with corresponding packages.

Mine hasn't, I just read that as "further-red" for some reason.

EDIT: And have also resorted to saying "My hasn't" instead of mine. Yippee I'm going dumb.

Install one on to an external drive or a flash drive and run it from there? Just a guess.
