ION STORM FORUMS - where it all began

In the DX1 Mods section you'll see Deus Ex 1 Re-texturing. This was
where it all started - unfortunately I can't locate the actual thread (cause that'd give us the exact date this whole thing started). But after this if I remember rightly God is my goldfish, Naysayer(who was only involved with the IonStorm project - but did a texture near the end of the project's life), Iki, Metche and Phasmatis too with a few of the other guys got together and founded Rebirth. I was around when that was all happening. Though I didn't contribute anything apart from encouragement. (The operation was a community based project - not a team based one at the time so anyone could submit textures)

Deus Ex: Rebirth (named after Deus Ex 2: Rebirth which their efforts were inspired from) - Formerly Deus Ex: Retex started. It had little guidence (just look at the News posts) and Metche took up the job (thank god she did cause the project was nearly dead at the time) and at the time they all figured "the name sucks" (several posts in the forums had Iki talking about them coming up with a new name) thus HDTP was born. Thanks to Metche's efforts HDTP was more streamlined than Retex - so HDTP would no doubt live on further than its predecessor - and has since become one of the more complete re texturing operations to date.

Also.. ION LIVES!

www.ionstorm.com

Unfortunately the PHP stuff is down so you can't see the actual site.

I also tried to get the Deus Ex.com site but it appears to be Flash and a lot of it is missing. But I did get this nice little snippet.

HOLD ON! Notice something new? There is a weapon there that never featured in the game.

You can go back to when Ionstorm was first founded (its pretty funny cause its a basic HTML website with no images)

Also I have here Planet Deus Ex. Back when it actually did something!
www.planetdeusex.com
if you go back further you get:
Deus Ex: Incarnate (features screen shots of the Beta version)

Found those on Deus EX: Incarnate too :D

Pretty neat huh :D

Oh yeah that reminds me, does anyone have a copy of the first www.deusex2.com website. It was completely white and had JC.

I remember the site and I thought it looked cool - so if anyone has it could they put it up somewhere.

I recall reading on Wikipedia that there was some fake UNATCO website taken down after 9/11 because people could take it seriously - does anyone know what the URL was?

"Does Bin Laden pose a threat to Israel?"

Maybe that was the wrong question to ask :(

What's wrong with Deus Ex Rebirth?

Deus Ex2: Rebirth was great.

Rebirth for Deus Ex 1 took too long to produce very minimal improvements. HDTP blew rebirth out of the water - HDTP is a huge leap from the original DX.

I remember those projects. I used to watch their progress, until it seemed to stop. I posted in the DX Retex forums asking what was happening. I forget who responded, and who knows what my username was, but I was told something about a leadership issue, an argument, and nothing getting done. Then there was talk of a new project, IIRC Metche posted, and then there was talk of where the remnants of DXRetex could be found to incorporate into the new HDTP.

I was on a 26.4 modem connection, I wasn't big into online multiplayer. I'm still not, so that keept me out of PC gaming communities in general.

Hmm......this weapon deserves digging, but we don't have an ounce of material to dig in...could it be the early version of a prod?

Hmm, I remember discussing that weapon before, on PDX I think. But I don't remember any details. I think either it's a weapon that didn't end up making it in, like a laser pistol, or - far more likely - an early version of the plasma rifle or somesuch.

My opinion, it looks a little like a tazer (maybe before the Prod came along)

anyway, Rebirth was a bad name because people got it confused with Deus Ex 2 Rebirth. And at the time they had HD on their promos so it was totally inconsistent. Obviously they were gonna call it HD something.

Deus Ex Invisible War Website(2nd Version)

The existing one at www.deusex.com is the 3rd version.
The one I asked for is the 1st version (which resembled the first Deus Ex)

Also

The original HDTP website except I can't get it to load.

Those two E3 things were already on the net apparently:

I also remember finding this on my box of Deus Ex GOTY.
there is a screenshot with the sniper rifle pointed at an MJ12 trooper.

You'll notice that there isn't any Black. Which may suggest they were planning to implement a different scope. (something similar made it into the Multiplayer version. But it didn't look nearly as good as that one)

That link to the mobygames pic doesn't work, you know. You have to link to the page of the moby games website it's on instead.
