Deus Ex error?

I instaled Deus Ex (no mods at this point) on a 2nd computer

At first it bitchs about being unable to find the cd (the cd was in the drive it was in during installation), so go to do the "edit the .ini and clear the CD path" trick (for some reason it was looking in the z: drive, the z:drive is the printer's sd card slot, no idea why it was looking there)

after I try to boot it again i get this error.

any ideas?

try reinstalling to a different location.
sounds like something didn't install properly.
is the cd scratched at all?

EDIT: you will need to uninstall first.

also, do you have multiple installations on your machine?

There is more than one install because I tryed reinstalling and it didn't reconise the existing one. The CD is in pretty poor condition.

edit:I tried a few other games, they all seem to be failing to read the CD, regardless of condition. I assume they are all trying to check the z drive. Any idea?

Just before my old 'puters ram died that was happening to me. That and the game telling me to put the correct cd in the drive even though I had, like five times . I'm no expert, but it sort of sounds similar.

unplug your printer.
that will disconnect your 'z:' drive.

is it the original dx cd? or a game of the year version?

I would, but the printer is connected over wifi, and it's a pain to get the printer "hooked" back up to my primary computer (so I don't want to kill the power).

I would assume your CD has been scratched and rendered useless.
The same thing happened to my first DX cd, so I bought another one.

you could buy it on steam.

or, try copying the cd directly to your computer and install it from the local files you just copied.
i know my original cd scratched pretty bad and it would always error out during the install when it tried copying the hong kong maps. If it eventually installed, the map would always error out when trying to open it.
