Mercenaries 2

Post by fox »

Mercenaries 2 seems to be cool. May lack a story but the gameplay looks like fun!

Hah! I saw this at RPS this morning, hot damn that looks awesome. I love open world games. Between this, Far Cry 2, and Red Faction 3 next year, I am going to be one happy camper for the next 12 months.

I have the first mercenaries game and it was great. Surprisingly it had a half-way decent storyline and multiple endings based on your actions throughout the game. I plan on getting it though idk what I will get it for.
Hmm, I really wish I had a signature...

3 games in 12 months? that is a very slow game expiry rate.

12 months is more or less the period throughout which they are released.

They ARE open-world games though, so I bet they'll last quite a while. Plus there's also White Gold, Fable 2, and Fallout 3.

Well, Australians evidently won't be able to enjoy Fallout 3 because of their fantastically democratic government.

Is Fable 2 even coming out on PC?

I recommend you get a friend in the US to gift you the game through Steam and just compensate him/her via Paypal.

Not yet, as far as I know, but of course the original Fable started out as an X-Box exclusive too, so it'll probably be released for PC at some point - and then it may even have extra content, like the original had. I'm getting it for X-Box 360 though.

DIdn't Fable start out as PC Exclusive, then got bought by MS and became an XBox exclusive for some time, until the PC version was released?

Dunno. Point is it was released as an X-Box exclusive.

By the way, Mercenaries 2 will have drop-in co-op.

I liked the little mini-vignette-diorama-style bits where there were stealing a tank or a chopper..that was a nice touch (blurring of background and, presumably, 'disabling of AI' for everyone in the background so you don't just get owned by a sniper while repeatedly slamming someone's head in a door, or something).

Still, I fucking hate modern console games: no matter what they do or how they try, control pads ruin your hands.

Also, the UI was a bit intrusive: "press X to enter the TANK!" ...'yes, I know that by now, thank you...', but hopefully that would be disablable or somehow minimisable.

Also, I have serious concerns about their ideas of 'stealth'. Stealth does not, to my mind, entail scooting up in a buggy, shooting a few people with a machinegun in broad daylight, grappling up into a helicopter and then firing missiles at all and sundry.

And the best bit: apparently once you STOP firing missiles for a minute or two, they forget you're an enemy! Hooray!

Possibly I'm just being too harsh, though. It _does_ look fun.

Control pads ruin your hands? What, more than a mouse!?

Agreed about the stealth. I was laughing a bit when they showed that.

It is kinda stealthy if you kill everbody so no one will spot you.

I gave CoD 4 to a friend recently using this method. :P

This is the story of a TON of games Microsoft got their hands on. :(
