Carry On Wayward Son
Hey guys I recently recorded a cover of Kansas - Carry On Wayward Son and am looking for feedback
http://heavyjack.com/carryonwaywardson.mp3
Recorded with Logic 9 Express, Drumagog, and Pod Farm 2.0
Recorded track in 9 hours and spent about 8 hours of mixing time on it - it was for recorded for the closing credits of a documentary. As such time was a priority and I used a rearranged midi drum track with drumagog to get the drum sound and Pod Farm 2.0 to alleviate the process of recording live amps to build tone.

I'll be brutally honest. Okay? Okay.
I really like what you did with the instruments. I really hate what you did with the vocals.
Basically, the instrumentation is a very nice update from the markedly 70's vibe of the original, you've added a lot of chaos to get that modern wall of sound... uh, sound, and I really appreciate that. I was a bit sceptical about the synth in the intro but I warmed to it, and nothing else about the score struck me as less than good.
But the vocals don't work for me at all. I might be wrong but I thought I heard a few false notes, and either way the whole thing is just too monotone - far too much of the actual melody is lost, I'm guessing because you (or whoever did the singing) lacks the range to hit the high notes. Now, I'm pretty sure you can rejig the melody to fit the voice of the vocalist - I guess that's what you were trying to do, and I appreciate the fact that a cover artist needs to bring his own interpretation to the song, but I definitely feel like you've lost too much of the melody. Plainly, the vocalist sings too few notes. More variation please

Music = EPIC!
But the vocals are a bit... bleh, as Jonas said.

Re: Carry On Wayward Son
Overall it was pretty well done - the only thing I can criticise is that the background guitars near the end were messy, and the bass drum could be slightly more prominent, particularly in the intro. The vocals were good, actually.
Re: Carry On Wayward Son
I liked the music, especially the opening. I didn't mind the vocals as there was a kinda Bob Dylan tone to them.

It sounds good, I enjoyed it. A striking resemblance to the Killers in the vocals, I might add.
