As a hip hop and battle rap fan these are horrendous in all honesty, the worst part is they are gradually becoming worse with every release. Go watch some real battles if you enjoy this stuff.
Re: Epic rap battles of history
I've seen some real battles and I don't like them. As a person who hates very nearly all hip hop and rap, these are generally pretty funny.

Re: Epic rap battles of history
Quite understandable, keep in mind there are different approaches in battle rap. I prefer comedy as well over the typical braggadocio that most are accustomed to knowing.
Re: Epic rap battles of history
Agree with Jonas on the Hawking-Einstein one.
But then, I really am not a rap or hiphop fan either. What matters to me is not the quality of the rapping, but how seemingly well they capture the mentalities of the characters they parody.
But ok. Hit me up with some other parody rap. Let's see the best of what the artform has to offer, according to a connoiseur.

Did not know of this before. Was pretty cool.

Hahaha! Okay, Albert Einstein vs. Stephen Hawking was pretty funny. Mr T vs. Mr Rogers wrecked my childhood memories.

Like I said it depends on what you like and what style/content appeals to youAEmer wrote:But then, I really am not a rap or hiphop fan either. What matters to me is not the quality of the rapping, but how seemingly well they capture the mentalities of the characters they parody.

Re: Epic rap battles of history
Thanks for the examples...but to be honest, what I really liked about the epic rap battles was it's ability to capture and translate disparate characters and position them in a setting where they face off.
These examples seem to be highly personal, the rapper only ever repressenting his own character. Even if the framing is an aspect of his character, it's still two people facing off, and rather than assume an interesting identity, the characters the rappers portray are based on the rappers themselves.
The rhymes may be more interesting, but if the context they're made in isn't interesting to me, and people I don't know beforehand just aren't as interesting to me as people I do know beforehand...that's just not doing it for me.

This isn't even a rap, but it's the same essential concept - two blokes squaring off...but these characters are interesting to me even beforehand, and the frame of reference is one I actually posses.
The burns may be ever so sick in ordinary battles, but if I ultimately don't care about the people delivering or being hit by them, it will have much less of an impact.

Didn't like the hitler-darth vader one, but the einstein-hawking one is funny!
