Post The end of chocolate as we know it today!?!
Just saw this: http://uk.lifestyle.yahoo.com/worldwide ... aring.html

Short quote from the first part of the article:

Quote:
We will have a million-ton cocoa shortage within eight years, forcing the price of chocolate to rise significantly.

Industry insiders say the growing demand for chocolate in areas where it wasn’t previously popular means cocoa farmers need an area the size of the Ivory Coast to produce more cocoa.

Angus Kennedy, a leading British chocolatier, told The Express: “Part of the problem is the growing demand for chocolate in Asia where countries such as China are turning more towards Western tastes.”

If they do not receive more help to boost cocoa bean crops, prices will push chocolate into a delicacy price bracket and we will be forced to find less appealing chocolate substitutes in the market that “don’t melt in your mouth” says Kennedy.

 Can't say I like the idea of living in a world where chocolate turns into a luxury or the idea that it won't "melt in your mouth" anymore! Will be like waking up one day and finding all the "working class" chocolate is now like "PowerSauce Bars" Apple cores and Chinese Newspapers! and only the rich can afford what we know as chocolate today. Well, not exactly like The Simpsons, but something worse than now.

I only get an appetite for chocolate in the coldest months of the year. I guess some clever boffin will save the day with an acceptable substitute. I don't mind carob, though chocolate is tastier. :)

Well, this just means that we need to stay ahead of the game, while China is getting ready for chocolate, I present to you the new taste sensation: black licorice!

As long as coffee is still affordable, I will be content.

Ahh, I don't eat chocolate that much (says he who is eating a Chocolate Orange at this very moment in time) but I fear for my survival should Chocolate ever become expensive or scarce. My Girlfriend and best friend kill for chocolate... 8-[

I eat a helluva lot of chocolate all the time, thankfully I'm not fat, but I'm as skinny as hell sadly. I can't imagine a world with no chocolate.

Will we all end up eatung "Chunko-Honey" bars?

Black licorice! What's wrong with you? It doesn't compare to chocolate!

When I first saw the name of this thread I thought it was yet another funnily edited spam post.

Liquorice all-sorts are heavenly! Well, the colored bits are. Not the actual liquorice part. I just can't imagine it being better than chocolate. What about choc trays? So exciting!

Honestly I don't like liquorice, so that is me screwed, however I can't remember what it is, but there is some wild plant, that the roots taste like chocolate and its safe to eat, but can't remember what plant it is, think its a plant native to UK and Europe.
