For those of you who haven't been following the "Nukezone - strategic text-based game" thread, it was suggested that we all join an MMO.
We decided on Anarchy Online as it's free, pretty low spec so people with lower end machines can play it and there are plenty of classes to choose from.
We need at least 6 people (it may be 8) to create an organisation so the more people who join the better.
Currently, I am a (Clan) Meta-Physicist, on Atlantean (Rubi-ka 1).
http://www.anarchyonline.com/ if you experience some errors when patching, close down the patcher via the task manager and then load Anarchy Online up again. This may happen a couple of times but it will patch up in the end.

I have to finish my web project for university tonight after workout, but tomorrow I promise I will install AO and patch it up and make a character. I downloaded it last night.
tempted as I am by this I have so many games lined up I dont want to start adding dated games to the list. That said the concept of gaming with this crowd in general is appealing if a game I was more interested in were suggested.
You lot all suck! Well, with only 3 of us it isn't going to be that great, sure we might have a few laughs but I think it will only be enjoyable with a large group.
I mean, meta-physicist isn't exactly an inspiring title...with say, Guild Wars you're maybe a 'necromancer' or a 'warrior': it's fairly easy to spot you'll be either making dead things not-quite-dead-again or hitting things hard.
Meta-physicist? Do you specialise in lecturing to largely uncaring undergrads until you can get back to the coffee room and bitch about it?
Stats:
-Chalk mastery 6
-Big scary equations 12
-Bitching over coffee 9
-Writing grant applications 3 <--needs more points!!!one
Just curious, and too busy to check out the website.
Yet somehow not busy enough to stop myself from writing all this, apparently.
Annoyingly there isn't anything I can copy and paste from the website, only from the manual and I can't be arsed to download that.
A Meta-phsicist is like a wizard, the spells are Nanos you pickup or buy. He can buff other characters aswell as himself so he's pretty strong. He has 3 pets that do the damage for him and he's pretty cool.
Guildwars is another MMO I was thinking of, since there isn't a monthly fee it's pretty good and you don't have to buy the expansions and it's quite new *stares at thatguy*
Well I'm already in GW, so I'd obviously favour that (I could probably hook you up with stuff, and stuff too)...but I'll try and have a look at AO tonight and see what it's like.
Also, infinite respeccing is just too lovely for words. The thought of going back and playing something that forces you to make permanent skill choices is skeery..
Anarchy Online...I keep quitting you, but I can never leave you. I'd be up for some AO or GW; I find that I stick with MMO's when I'm playing with friends, though I have to ask if we would only play when we're all here, or if we'd be free to level. If we were free to level, I might lose interest simply because I'd end up 20 levels behind everyone else and not be able to tackle the subway dungeon or that one temple dungeon.
The choice of AO partially came from a need for crafting, although having said that AO crafting is utterly random. For example gun + rucksack = better gun, but obviously it has to be the right gun and backpack and the game itself doesn't say.
Still it _is_ fun (though you have to give it time and ask a lot of questions as the manual is horrendously bad), and I think people should give it a go. If it doesn't work out then we can always try something else.
Phas: I rerolled knowing that people would be starting from scratch. I'm now a level 14 Neutral Engineer currently being crippled by the new title system. You can find me in Borealis.
I wouldn't mind starting over a further time if one or two people are going to start again, just for the fun of doing the newbie island again. Get me on MSN: deus_diablo@planetdeusex.com.

Not really a problem with GW, since the level cap is 20, and that's considered the point at which you actually start playing "properly".
But that in itself removes a lot of the fun of progressive levelling, even if it does force you to actually try to play BETTER (though I've met people trying to do the final missions who are still wearing starter armour and using beginner skills, amazingly).
And the few screenies in the manual hint at hidden and unnecessary depths....

O_o
Also, the way it's written is just hilarious: "You can do all this stuff, but you might not want to, since it's not a good idea. Don't worry though, it won't completely screw up your character. Also, you can't reset these select skills listed here because people were using them to cheat in the following immersion-breaking ways: lists ways".
I love manuals that actually tell you HOW you might've cheated, were you to try cheating.
