Yeah the part about getting people's hopes up is precisely why it's not an HDTP reference. First of all, the guys at Extra Credits wouldn't be big enough assholes to pick on a mod team. Secondly, it's pretty clearly self-irony, scolding himself for the fact that he just got his viewers' hopes up for an official DX remake for a second there.

HDTP isn't doing anything with adding achievements or anything else to Deus Ex. Just adding the HD bit. The next sentence is that there isn't an "HD Remake", so I can't see how it's a HDTP reference -- just doesn't fit.

I liked the DX shoutout though, thanks Hashi. I didn't watch the entire thing, but I found the discussion on vapid ways of extending gameplay-time agreeable. Interesting site.

Its not a reference to HDTP, rather everyone and his dog has suggested a HD remake of Deus Ex 1. He was just being a jerk to those people lol. HDTP is not a HD remake, this is a huge misconception. Majority of HDTP already exists in that Demo that was released.

I'm pretty sure DeusEx was mentioned because it is a game with so many options and so many little details. Those little dialogue tidbits like like Paul calling you a Jackass, Manderley scolding you for going in the womens restroom, and all those other little details were like fun little achievements to find in their own right. Not mention the fact that you can beat the entire game without using any items.

If it's funny or more relevant to anyone if they think it's about HDTP, that's fine, enjoy it more. It's fairly clear it wasn't intended to be. It really doesn't matter.

Yeah JC Helios, the example of DX illustrated the point in the video fairly well. Sad that it had to go a decade back into videogame history for a good example.
