#1. What is the latest status of HDTP?
DDL on Mar 12, 2011 wrote:We're alive, just keeping under the radar
#2. What remains to be done?
DDL on Aug 12, 2010 wrote:Animating. The weapon models are done, and for things like the 3rd person/pickup view, that's all you need, so those are already in. The problem is first person animations. And they're getting them done, but slowly.
#3. What is HDTP?

"Project HDTP is a High Definition Texture Package for the original Deus Ex videogame. It includes re-modelled and re-textured objects, characters, vehicles, and weapons."

#4. What isn't HDTP?

HDTP does not improve world textures, the DX engine, story, levels/maps, or any audio. It requires a copy of Deus Ex to be used.

-New Vision replaces world textures, including walls, floors, signs, and some objects.
-Deus Ex Revision is replacing levels/maps.

#5. Where can I find HDTP news and screenshots?

http://www.emmersivestudios.com
http://www.offtopicproductions.com/hdtp/
http://www.moddb.com/mods/project-hdtp

You'll notice updates are always old. HDTP members prefer informal updates, so the latest news can be found in this forum, and hopefully in this thread.

#6. What is the release date? When will it be announced?

There is no current release date, and no known plans to announce one.

#7. Why is it taking so long?

HDTP members have real lives, and they do not make a living from HDTP. It is worked on in spare time. The task is large.

#8. Why not open-source it? Will it use an opensource or CreativeCommons licence?

The HDTP members prefer not to open-source at this time. However, it will be free to play.

In the past, HDTP members have stated that everything will be released in a modifiable state, much like TNM, which used the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 licence.

#9. I could do this faster/sooner/easily/probably!

Congratulations. That is likely untrue.

#10. Is HDTP dead? You guys promised!

HDTP claims not to be dead. Please check Question #1 for the latest reassertion.

HDTP promises nothing but continued effort.

#11. Can I help, join, or donate?
metche on Oct 22, 2009 wrote:Thanks! Sadly we can't use your skills as we are done with texturing and modelling too for that matter. We are waiting for the animations to be finished up.
Please join the forums. HDTP itself "is a closed group, so new members can only join upon invitation by a group leader".

HDTP is not accepting donations, but appreciates the sentiment.

#12. Will HDTP run on Macintosh, Mac OS X, or Linux?

Hopefully. Deus Ex can run in WINE, which runs on OS X and Linux. Unfortunately, demand for supporting Deus Ex for Macintosh (aka. Classic, OS 9) is so low that HDTP is unlikely to be tested on PPC.

#13. Who is HDTP?

HDTP is a diverse group of Deus Ex fans. Metche is the project leader.

#14 Who are you?

I am justanotherfan. I am not a member of HDTP. This FAQ is currently unofficial. Hopefully HDTP corrected any inaccuracies here.

#15. How can I contact the actual HDTP directly?

Please e-mail: hdtp at offtopicproductions.com
Or the project coordinator: bann79 at gmail.com
Or simply post in the forum. Posts on the forum are more likely to be responded to.

#16. OK, that's very interesting. I still want to play HDTP now.

Hopefully the full version will be released soon. Until then, the first release from 2006, which replaces decorative objects, is available here.

#17. That HTDP release 1 isn't working

Please read and post any troubleshooting issues here. If your copy of Deus Ex is downloaded from Steam, there are myriad issues with their modified DeusEx.exe that are covered here.

#18. Can I get a status update?

Sorry, status updates are rare as the project members are busy. If you feel that it has been too long since an update, you can ask for an update.

#19. I have a question that is not answered here.

Please post in the forum! A member of the community or HDTP itself will likely answer within a few days.

#20. Blaghr! Rawr, trolling!

Stop doing that. Please do not feed the trolls.

Hm! I hope nobody would mind that I sticky this, even though it's unofficial.

Good work JAF :)

I totally considered doing this. Glad someone else did it before I got a chance. :salute:

The good thing about this FAQ is that those who care (aka those us who have read the forums) already know all this junk, and you probably won't get many new visitors needing a super duper run down, because, well...they think its dead.

And suffice to say: Useless other than as a banner for The White Knights of the non-existent princess of mod teams.

You talk and talk but you don't say anything. Very curious phenomenon.

@ riskmaker: why do I get the impression that you want to draw attention to yourself? True, few people care for HDTP. How many do you think care for what you say? I can understand why you're upset - what's the point in complaining though? You're not disturbing anyone: most of the team is not online and everyone here is used to ignore such comments as the one you made above. I ask you: What makes you think they're useful?
It seems to me you're fighting windmills and claiming they're big bad giants .

If you wanna be a risk taker, there are other opportunities; for instance make your own mod and prepare to face the judgment of others.

I guess I'm one of those few then eh.

I look forward to your efforts at developing a HD Deus Ex Mod yourself riskmaker, I really do.
I'll even go as far as to say that I'd troll your own mod for you so you feel right at home.

Thanks for stickying this Jonas. I felt it was presumptuous to write, and stickying too much to ask afterward. It isn't ideal, so I truly invite HDTP to correct/update/add/reduce it rather than removing it; I'd rather a FAQ be HDTP's and not mine.

I did it out of frustration. A lot of that info is in random old topics. The info on "what's left to do" is buried in the forum and hopefully obsolete. Often people come in wondering, since moddb's 2006 page links to http://www.hdtp.net, and the 2008 homepage still links to d-watts.net and a deusexgaming.com page. Answered questions get asked again with nothing new added.
--

It's just a FAQ. It doesn't even assert HDTP is alive. It just has inevitable answers to common concerns. It isn't meant to convince anyone of anything. Hopefully that can make way for new topics and arguments instead of rehashing old ones. I doubt it'll help with the trolling, but at least there's stock responses now.

On http://www.offtopicproductions.com/hdtp/?page_id=3 the OTP download link is wrong. It points to http://www.hdtp.net/releases/HDTP-Release1.exe (Which doesn't exist) instead of http://www.offtopicproductions.com/hdtp/releases/HDTP-Release1.exe.

there are a few quiet ones.. i check back every couple of years to see if my DX is ready to be undusted again (never finished the game, waiting for hdtp btw.) but i'm patient, so no worries.
last time i chimed in must have been with the collective distributed animation tracing thing.

would be cool to see another release with all that's been done since then even if it's unfinished.

I might have to bring it back. I'm revisiting the character models now and spank my ass and call me a bitch if calculating JC's animations doesn't take 8 hours on my 2600K using all cores at 4.5ghz

Can't imagine how I managed back in 2008 on my shitty dual core 1.2ghz AMD

Okay, let me rephrase this: re-reading this comment it is only fair that I cannot speak for everyone here. I was merely voicing the fact that with no major updates for a while it was understandable that some people had lost interest in the mod*. It is possible that there are many more followers than I thought in the first place, considering the number of views on HDTP related news (I myself occasionally check for updates, but that is not relevant to the point). Still, there may be a lot more than that when it is released, assuming not everyone who might be interested in playing with HDTP would know about/check these forums.**

With that said, good luck with finishing the mod guys.

*Obviously that was before it was announced that all models had been imported and so on, which should bring people back.
** including new players who'd want a graphically enhanced Deus Ex to start with, I know a few.

@Chris the cynic : Apologies for outrageously stealing your footnote system  I couldn't get the same quality of content though!

On the contrary, I am new to these forums and while I may have heard something of this a while ago, this thread really has peaked my interests.

This brings me to my next question, for years now I have been playing Deus Ex, however I have only been playing the "Game of the Year" edition. From many conversations that I have seen take place over many forums, I get the impression that I am not getting the full experience, or rather enhanced experience, that other gamers are getting who have played the game with these ad-ons and modifications. Obviously I have played some wonderful and interesting mods such as The Nameless Mod itself, but I have never really tried out any of the improvements for Deus Ex. Would these "New Vision" and "Revision" modifications be the way to go?

H+

Revision is fun, and as you've mentioned playing DX multiple times, it contains a few cool surprises. I always install New Vision with DX now, and I'm waiting patiently for HDTP's release. That, and Dave W's continued brilliant work with New Vision will breath new life into DX. In short, yes.

Yeah, the Revision Mod expands the levels with new areas to explore and additonal details with more NPC's, that kind of thing. http://www.moddb.com/mods/deus-ex-revision

New Vision improves the world textures. http://www.moddb.com/mods/deus-ex-new-vision

If you haven't it yet, the Shifter mod fixes numerous bugs and adds a number of gameplay features. http://www.moddb.com/mods/shifter1

You already know what HDTP is so you could install it alongside the others. You might have too do some altering in the .ini file to get all the mods to work on one .exe.
