Voices in the game

Post by Sturm J?ger »

I remember that I read somewhere that performers for new speech were looked for. Is there realy plans to change the voices of the game characters? If that's the case why the devil for? I'm already a bit conserned about G?nthers new "slim" look...

Are you entirely sure you're not mistaking the HDTP for TNM? HDTP have no plans to re-record voices, but we at TNM have been seeking actors to record voices for our characters.

Is there a position for someone with a suave, debonair voice?

Like, say, me?

Actaully, I've been needing to record myself for the mod, cause I'd like to be in it. The only problem I've been having is recording in an area without sound disturbance. Any ideas on how to best capture my voice?

There are always room for more voice actors. But please don't be discouraged if we can't find you a part right away, lots of parts are bound to pop up when we start voicing the named characters and singling out the ones that can't/won't voice themselves.

As for recording yourself, all I know is in this guide:

Did I understand correctly that some people ARE making new speech for your enhaced characters? If this is so then are those voices left optional? I like the original actors pretty much.
By the way. Are there plans to change the level desing too? Since you're making new models an enhaced level desing does seem logical. A bit off-topic but I hope you can forgive this.

Hi all!

We seem to be getting confused here lol. HDTP have NO plans to rerecord character voices (that would be very silly - you cant change the original voices - that would be just wrong on so many levels!) nor do we have plans to remake any levels, etc. The HDTP mods sole purpose it to upgrade the graphics and certain models in the game. Thes the whole scope of it and thats what we have to wtick to, to make sure we have a product we can release to the community :)

The only mod whose talking voice overs and levels is the TNM mod :)

Hope this clears the matter up!
Metche.

And just to be absolutely clear about this, TNM is not messing with the DX storyline, we're creating our own story in our own setting with our own characters.

So there.

A professional sound engineer once told me that the best 'amateur' way of doing it is to throw a duvet over your head while you record it. Cuts out all external sound, and dampens any echoes.

Another tip is to lock your door and keep as far as you can from the mic
that way you don't get interference when you say anything with a B or P in it..

Try it out..

The "air explosion" problem with B's and P's can also be circumvented by placing your mike at an angle, pointing at your face, while you speak to your monitor. That way the air from your mouth doesn't hit the mike.

Hey Jonas - You and Trestkon allowed me access to the Worldcorp Security Voice Lines a fair while back and I have so far submitted about half the lines... [hope they havn't got lost in the Changeover?]

I found that simply keeping the mic just below your lips and not touching your mouth, is the best way to record. That way your voice goes straight over the top of the mic but not directly onto it -and you can speak normally without worrying about the "air explosion" effect.

And, Yes, close your door.
lol I was recording one time and my bro was in the loungeroom watching Band of Brothers... I played back the recording after uttering these lines "If you don't cease that behaviour, I'm gonna have to escort you out of the building." around the word "escort" you could hear gunfire erupt and a bomb explode, accompanied by some soldiers screaming in agony!

I felt like adding... "Trust me... you don't want that." lol
A mate & always the aussie.

Hahahah.

Well, I don't really have a good overview of the voice acting department, but if you would record all the lines and send them to voicesubmissions@offtopicproductions.com, Pointman will get them as well, and he's in charge of all that stuff.
