soon i will be here

Post by S.P.Q.R. »

i just found this project, and yes, its wounderfull, fantastic, GREAT!actually, i have no idea how to remodel even 2d textures but i beginn to learn in this very moment.if there are other ways in helping to accomplish your awsome goal to retexture deus ex, then let me know(iam beginning to mobilize some people who are quite good at 2d/3d modelling).
one question on 2d retextuering: can i use microsoft photo editor?
and another suggestion:you know the ai at everrets laboratorium?(i dont know the name, echelon3 or something).the dialoge you have with it is,in my opinion, one of the best in the game.but this ai looks....well, something older than system shock1.ok the ai only apears once in the game, and has no effect on the story-ongoing,but perhaps, if there is time and ressources, making the ai look more mysterious could be very nice.anyway, i get my skill in retexture upgrade, and then i will be here!

I thought the retro look of the AI added to the atmosphere of an old relic type of AI and thought it was very intentional by the designers to make it look that way. I definitely agree with you about the conversations with it in the game though. It was awesome sneaking in that back room and finding it there.

but an echelon system allready exists, and the ai in the game is echelon3 or something like that.so...mhmm,but perhaps you are right that it is better for the atmosphere to keep that look of the ai,

Hi SPQR!

We all generally use either photoshop or paint shop pro - or similar. Im not sure that MSphoto is a powerful enough program to do textures to be honest.

However if you ever get some work put together then feel free to give me a bell :)

Get Gimp. It's pretty good, and open source.
It isn't nearly as wicked as photoshop, but it'll do.

Photoshop CS2 is great once its been "Registered" (for free *cough*)
Also Good-Tutorials.com is a great place for Photoshop tuts.
You can also look up "Textures" in google and find literally anything to overlay onto your textures to make them look extra nice.
Well theres some good tips anyway.

i know this question is ... strange, but how do you take screenshots from ingame deus ex?i cant do this! i press on the "print screen" button again and again, but nothing happens!
i get photoshop, and i try to get some work done on some area51 walls and floors. and its getting forward. with very, very, very, very, very small steps.
also i have some problems with this deus ex sdk( some things i changed in photoshop and inported in sdk look like bubblegum;sdk does not recognize my new texture. i cant play a modified level. and so on, and so on...)
you know any faq specialised on deus ex sdk/photoshop/retexture?anyway, i work on with try-and-error,learning-by-doing, and scrolling through "getting started" sites which is also usefull.

Presing print screen just copies your screen into memory. You have to open another program and paste it.Just open any image editing program and paste the screen cap and save it as whatever you want.

There is also, in fact, a screenshot button bindable to your keyboard from the keyboard settings menu. It will produce rather dark shots unless your brightness is turned all the way up though, but so will the print screen button. If you don't want to turn up your brightness every time you take a shot, you can open the console and type "sshot" without the quotes, that'll take a screenshot with a temporary flash effect and save it as a BMP in your System folder like the screenshot button does.

i always use Sshot cmd. Then you can play around with colour schemes. This is how we got the gunther colour scheme looking right. Its definately a good tool to be using when making final touches.. (plus you can point out interesting stuff and post it onto the forums)

LOL, that's a blast from the past. Hey-o, just figured you'd might like to see the updated model and texture list as opposed to something thats at least a year old...
