SPAM AVOIDANCE (my eyes burn)
Sigh. I highly recommend not looking at the spam. They're a series of pr0n pics: profit by my error, and don't look.

Re: SPAM AVOIDANCE (my eyes burn)
There seems to be in invasion of spam bots (well, most likely a real person, actually) today. We'll continue to ban them/delete the posts and hopefully find a way to keep them out. Sorry about the mess.

Don't worry, my computer blocks images from Encylopedia Dramatica.
Paul, I know you said no phone messages, but South Street's going up in smoke. We'll have to meet at the subway station.
Re: SPAM AVOIDANCE (my eyes burn)
I still think you should implement a CAPTCHA on making new topics.
Still, glad you took care if it so quickly.

I can imagine that would be incredibly annoying, so it would only be considered as a last ditch protection measure if things get really, REALLY bad.Jaedar wrote:I still think you should implement a CAPTCHA on making new topics.

Note that I only mean when you make new topics, which means sure, You'd have to spend 30 seconds extra to make a new topic, but it wouldn't be too bad (and how many topics do you create per day anyway?), but for the spammers, it would quickly add up. I admit having CAPTCHA on all posts would be insanely annoying.
I apologize if I was unclear.

No, you were clear. I think having it on new threads would be annoying. Plus, CAPTCHA is relatively easy to break, and the hard ones seem to be getting hard for *people* to read :pJaedar wrote:Note that I only mean when you make new topics, which means sure, You'd have to spend 30 seconds extra to make a new topic, but it wouldn't be too bad (and how many topics do you create per day anyway?), but for the spammers, it would quickly add up. You may be right on that.Trestkon wrote:CAPTCHA is relatively easy to break, and the hard ones seem to be getting hard for *people* to read :p
I still think it would be a necessary evil though. But naturally, you are totally entitled to ignore my opinion

Re: SPAM AVOIDANCE (my eyes burn)
To be honest, you need to get a special thing that only lets you one thread per 5 minutes, or was that only available on PHPBB2?

Re: SPAM AVOIDANCE (my eyes burn)
How about a CAPTCHA on new topics ONLY for members with under 100 posts? Or is that not possible?

A spammer decided it would be male porn day. Someone else can fill in the details for you. It was full on that's for sure.mqduck wrote:What? Hmm, maybe we should have a separate section for this. Separate the male one apart though.santherus wrote:Sigh. I highly recommend not looking at the spam. They're a series of pr0n pics
In seriousness, I recommended a post-captcha before to slow people flooding with new topics and such, but it really has been made easy to break and difficult to read. This forum is a small community, and the admins are vigilant, so it isn't necessary. Maybe a captcha to post a new thread, I don't know.
Re: SPAM AVOIDANCE (my eyes burn)
captcha is a no no
Specially because I have less than 100 posts..
BTW, doesn't it asks for captcha before registering?
Then it couldn't be a spambot.
