Post Questions about Tech Goggles/Vision Enhancement and Bob Page
One thing I didn't really like about tech goggles in Deus Ex was the fact that it didn't really let you see in the dark, it just turned the screen green. Will this problem be adressed in HDTP?

One more question. Is the HDTP model of Bob Page still going to be in this game? I think I recall someone in a thread saying he was cut. I don't really remember though so don't quote me on that, I may have misread the post.

HDTP does not mess with any gameplay elements, so no - the tech goggles will remain unchanged.

Dunno about Bob Page, somebody else will have to answer that.

Plus to be honest, the method used for faking light amplification is about as good as the engine can manage: what it's essentially doing is massively massively upping the contrast (and then colouring it green, obviously). Like any contrast adjustment, it works pretty poorly on monotonous surfaces with little variation in light or shade, but quite well in poorly lit areas with a bit of contrast in the first place.

So it's not really like we can even make it any better even if we were intending to.

And after all: if you're in the dark, why not just use the light aug? The DX NPC AI is so stupid, they don't actually react to the big obvious light beam unless they're already alerted to your presence. :P

Almost certainly if there are major alterations to the regular Bob :)

I thought that was meant to happen - didn't Jaime or the notes in the datavault say that only JC could see the light and all other NPCs were oblivious to it?

I dunno, but they certainly WILL spot it (even if _you_ are well hidden) if they're already looking for you, and they'll then magically know where you are.

So I kinda assumed that meant they could see it, in 'real-world' terms.

Are you sure that's the only time? I coulda sworn they saw it whilst facing the other direction when I shone it in their direction. Also, it's the voices heard through the infolink that only JC can hear, that's probably what you were thinking of.

Actually I just had an idea today but there's no way in hell we're implementing it in TNM at this stage (maybe in a patch?). What if you change the rendermode to make everything unlit while NV is activated? It'd probably look like crap, but it might be more useful than the current method (which also, incidentally, looks like crap :P ).

Uhm. Yes. That does look terrible. And useless. Even more useless than the old ones.

Damn, you weren't kidding. DX has all the detail of an N64 game with lightmaps disabled.

Except Perfect Dark of course. I think Goldeneye had rudimentary lighting too.
