Post Unbelievably good work
I hate registering for any reason, but saying thanks for this mod warrants an excuse. Your group has made a wonder, honestly. I loved Deus Ex and kept coming back to it, but yours is the first (and only mod) that makes me feel the same way. I might not get all the references etc, but regardless I love it. You've made a new place for DX in my mind.

I know you people must have had plenty of support and thanks, but here's one for a late comer. Thanks for making my day (and failing my finals :))

You're welcome, thanks a lot for registering to say this :)

And sorry about your finals.

As for the references, it's best just to assume they're non-sequiturs and judge them on that basis - 4 out of 5 times you'll be right ;)

Same here guys, really excellent job. I've never seen such amazing atmosphere or music put into something that isn't Deus Ex!

The thing is, some of the things people think are the references aren't non-sequiturs. They're sequiturs. They sequit. If the people were to just think about it they way they would in any other work of fiction they'd see that they do follow.

All examples have fled from my mind, probably because it's been so long and I found the whole thing annoying at the time.

Technically (and in all other ways) the above is grammatically incorrect. Sequitur actually means "He/she/it follows," so to say that they follow I should say, "Sequintur," or, "They sequintur." (That the subject is third person plural is contained in the verb ending and thus the "they" is redundant but can be used for emphasis.) Sequit is not remotely a word.

Post Re: Unbelievably good work
When I first played The Nameless Mod, I had not posted on the Planet Deus Ex Forum for years, not that I had ever really posted much there at all really. I managed to avoid getting caught up in the sense that I was missing some huge inside joke, that one would have to have been a member of Planet Deus Ex to understand, by assuming most of the relationships and behaviours, in the game, were all just a part of the wonderful fiction of The Nameless Mod. I realised that if I viewed every interaction with every character as a reference to some past behaviour from members of the forum that I would simply not enjoy the game. I like to judge things such as games, films, books, et cetera on their own individual merrits and leave the comparisons for later. The end result was that I thoroughly enjoyed The Nameless Mod. I may not get some of the jokes, but as a standalone tale, this game is unbelievably good work, as the original poster put it.

If it's any consolation I no longer get those jokes myself. Like... one of the few clear cut examples of an in-joke in TNM is the remark Phasmatis makes about Despot's pants. Where the fuck did that come from? I don't remember. I'm not sure I ever knew. It just kinda happened. But it's there and it's mildly funny by virtue of its randomness, it's just a small non-sequitur for you to laugh at or not. There's a few of those throughout the game.

That's excellent. Another example is DJ Grub at The Partyzone. I thought his inclination toward rhyming all of his sentences together was hilarious. I conjectured that it was a small possibility that he would post like that on Planet Deus Ex, however unlikely, and that if he didn't do it, it doesn't matter because it is still amusing and if he did, even better.

Yeah Grub never posted like that, but we let him write his own character's dialogue, and he made it all rhyme so his character would stand out a bit :P

And probably also because he thought it was funny. Which it kinda is.

The one line he used which I will never forget, sorry if my quote isn't accurate, is; "Never to fear I have permission, I hacked the AI of my own volition".

At the risk of sounding like a total clown, I have adopted that statement for myself and use it often lol.

Well as someone who was never a member of any DX forum (until now I guess) and played through TNM in it's entirety, I never - or very rarely - felt out of the loop as far as the jokes went. I just assumed they were random and there to flesh out the world a little and/or give the characters a bit more...character.

They fit in with the overall tone of random humor that was present throughout the game.
