I suspect the HL2 engine is more open to modding than DX, but damn... if we could somehow get normal-mapping into DX that would be crazyDaveW wrote:I've seen people implement normal maps into Half Life using an updated OpenGL Driver though (like the mod Paranoia). Wouldn't that be possible with Deus Ex?
Of course it'd also make the character models look really bad.

Well, there's been projects adding stuff to the OpenGL drivers before. S3TC (i.e. what NV is reliant on), and some project for Unreal Tournament which dressed it up with loads of bloom and stuff. Looks like the screenshot actually has bump/normal mapping already actually.
Wow yeah that's... a lot of bloom.

damn that would look hot with the new textures... so is anyone doing that for HDTP?
btw i like tons of bloom. i kind of liked the ATI DX:IW 1.0 bloom bug (when the bloom halos flood a good portion of the screen creating colored lighting from textures).

Re: oh OH!
Man, I must be getting old. No offense, but anyone who "gets off" on something like video game textures seems a bit...maladjusted. I know you were just over-exaggerating, so I won't pass judgment, and I know I used to do the same thing about stuff a couple years ago, but nowadays it just seems very disturbing O_oeternalightwithin wrote:I think I just came in my pants.

In any case, DX at 1360x768 = awesome to the max! You can see so much and not once does the UI get in the way now that it scales properly.
